I remember I got to the first actual stage and derped around in there for a while, before stopping cuz I was coming down with a cold. I guess now it's time to clear the first stage? Or am I going to have to learn abilities in other stages before I can come back and do that? Not yet certain what the gameplay loop looks like.

I'M BACK!
I thought I posted to explain my absence, but I guess not, whoops. My video card died! And as old as the rest of the machine was, there wasn't much point in putting a brand new card in it, so I built a whole new computer. The first delay was actually finding a video card for a reasonable price. Once I managed that, I planned on reusing the same case for the new system...but the video card was too long to fit. So TJ sent me an extra case they had, so I had to wait for that to arrive. And then came the usual struggles of assembling the machine, making sure everything is working, that whole new computer ordeal—which, for a few reasons, wasn't quick. Chief among those reasons was that my old-but-nice monitor, which is dual-link DVI only, had to use an adapter to connect to the video card, which only has HDMI and DisplayPort...and the adapter turned out to be insufficient for the task. Either I was getting all kinds of visual glitches, or I was getting 640x480. An adapter that actually would have worked woulda been hella-expensive...so I ordered a new monitor. That arrived today. The cables it came with aren't long enough.
At least everything works fine with the TV.
I forget exactly what I got up to last time in this game, having been out for about a month. I remember wrecking the xenomorph nest, discovering Weyland-Yutani had purchased the station because it had become infested...I forget the order of events, or how much may have happened after that. I'm sure it'll come back to me.

Look out, it's another spooky house! Only this time, our character doesn't get in a car wreck that makes them amnesic and wander in, only to discover it's their house—they set out to the house deliberately. Kind of refreshing to not have that twist (I assume).

Okay, so I did stream this about a week and a half ago. The first bit had some technical difficulties that made it just about unplayable, but I found some patches, and everything seemed to work fine. And then the power went out. And then my sleep schedule got borked, which is why I haven't returned to it yet. And now I'm awake at the right time, I fire up the game to prepare to stream, and find that the save is gone—probably the fault of that power failure.

Okay, so yesterday may have been a bit of a false start for spookytimes. Technical difficulties ran the gamut from learning the game needed several fan-made patches, to the power going out long enough for my UPS to run out of juice. Spooky things barely even started before it got cut short. I don't think we'll have nearly as many difficulties getting the game to play nice tonight, but the power situation is outside my control, so keep your fingers crossed for me.

So, between the cosplay I was doing for Disco Elysium, and the fact that there's a karaoke sidequest right there in the game, I felt compelled to do this. It took me a while to address some of my audio issues, but I think it's all ironed out now!

This game keeps having moments that make it feel like a sequel—events that would have far more impact if I already had the context for them—but as far as I can tell, it's a standalone game. Oh well, I'm enjoying the puzzles, anyway. And the cats are neat.
