Holding Court - Shadowrun: Dragonfall - Session 9

Technical Difficulties: The Gathering

 So, Saturday's stream was halted by a rather minor technical difficulty which I was unable to resolve. And while it wasn't super-awful, my computer has been accumulating small, annoying behaviors for a while, including taking 13 minutes to boot. I think it's time for a clean install. I've been getting everything backed up, and will be formatting as soon as that's complete.

Hopefully, I'll be back by tomorrow!

A night of poor digestion has thrown off my sleep schedule pretty badly—that's why I haven't done Holding Court yet this week. It'll return as soon as I can fix it; just didn't want to go radio silent for days on end.

Rawring into the '20s

Gogo (to sleep)

From the start to defeating Kefka (not counting the looong end sequence), the marathon lasted 38 hours and 28 minutes by my estimate. Wonderful way to celebrate my birthday and bring in the new year. Thanks to everybody who came out, enjoyed the game with me, and cheered me on!

Another Year of Beasts

The end of the year is upon us! For the third year in a row, I'll be celebrating New Year's Eve, my birthday, with a marathon stream of one of my very favorite games, start to finish in one sitting. And I invite you all to join me, in my living room or on Twitch, for as long as you like! Conversing with y'all keeps me energized, and makes the stream more interesting, to boot.

I must be a fool or a masochist, because this year, I picked Final Fantasy VI. While I love the game and know it very well, it's longer than my previous marathon games by a good bit. As such, I'm relaxing my "no help" rule from the last two years, and am writing up some super-condensed notes to help me plan the whole thing out, and perhaps reach the end before 30 hours have passed.

For those who are curious or care about such things, I'll be playing the SNES version with the latest version of the TWU patch. Woolsey's original translation is kind of incredible for having been done in three months, but under such tight deadlines, there were, of course, things that slipped through. This version is still primarily based on that script, but gone over using the GBA version and Lina Darkstar's translation notes as reference. I'm excited to try this version because a few years ago, I attempted to undertake this very thing, myself. I got maybe halfway through my first draft, had to put the project on hold for a little while, and when I came back to it, I discovered that someone else had done it already. I hope it lives up to my expectations!

The party begins on Sunday, December 31st at 3pm ET, and will continue well into New Year's Day. Won't you join us?

Hey, Thursday Throne might start a bit late tonight, or we might miss entirely. Have a thing to go to, and don't know how late it'll run. Expect a last-minute post if we go on.

Thursday Throne - Assassin's Creed II - Session 4

Before jumping into today's stuff, I wanna remind y'all that I'll be playing Super Mario RPG, beginning at 2pm ET on the 31st, and continuing until I beat the game, probably sometime Sunday morning. I had so much fun with last year's Chrono Trigger marathon that I think I'm going to have to make this a tradition, at least until I run out of suitable games. So please drop in and visit us on the stream as I say hello to being 32 and good riddance to 2016!

Early Throne Special - From Dust - Session 4

So, next Wednesday, I'll be going out of town, and I'll be gone for a month or so. I'll be without my computer, and also without my own transportation. The Throne Room Remains Quiet

My voice hurts. I could run a silent stream, but where's the fun in that? But yeah, I think I've caught something. Don't think I'll be Holding Court until that gets better.

I've got some important stuff I need to take care of today, so unless that stuff takes miraculously little time, I will not be Holding Court today. Shouldn't be anything stopping me tomorrow, though!

Holding Court - For the Frog the Bell Tolls

So, since I've got a lot of spare time on my hands lately, I feel like I should spend more of it streaming. If nothing else, a fixed daily schedule will probably be helpful to me. So, to that end, I'm beginning Holding Court, a daily, early-afternoon-until-whenever-I-feel-like stream. Kicking off this new show...

Once upon a time, lived two princes: the astute and brave Prince of Custard, and the noble but impetuous Prince of Sable. These two were fierce rivals in everything. This is the story of their adventure.

Many of you, I'm sure, have played The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. Remember that guy who lived south of the village, in the little villa, with frogs? That's Prince Richard from Kaeru no Tame ni Kane wa Naru, or For the Frog the Bell Tolls. Link's Awakening borrowed its engine, and gave one of its central characters a cameo in acknowledgement. The game's never seen release outside of Japan, but a few years ago, some fans released a translation patch, allowing a whole new audience to find out who the heck that Richard guy is.

I haven't settled on a time that I'll regularly begin Holding Court, but for today, join me at 4pm ET as I begin For the Frog the Bell Tolls!

Thursday Throne - The Longest Journey - Session 4

April returned from Arcadia, and even after seeing it with her own eyes, couldn't quite believe it. Cortez advised that she should seek out the young artist who painted the picture he asked her to examine at the gallery — he has connections that could help us find people we really need to set the worlds right. He didn't help for free, though; in exchange, we had to break into the police department, expunge his record and find his sister's whereabouts (all he knew was his family had been carted off to a corporate labor colony somewhere). We were able to find some information that helps us out, too. Unfortunately, the detective continues to suffer at our hands, continually being in the wrong place at the wrong time, and having something we need.

First up, an important announcement: those of you who have been with us for a while know that our schedule moves back and forth based on the time of year (more specifically, based on regular obligations for most of our hosts). In other news, if you missed last week, you'll know that our first session of Chronicles of Mystara was also our last, as we beat the entire game in one session, with about 10 minutes to spare. Whoops.

Fortunately, we have lots of time to figure out what to do about that, as next week, we won't be here! I'll be attending Dragon*Con; if you'll be there too, keep an eye out for me. I won't have a costume or anything, so I won't stand out too much. Consider it a challenge, I'll be like Waldo.

Unfortunately, if we don't beat it tonight, it'll be at least another month before we do. Throne of Games is going on hiatus until June 22nd, because I'm going to be moving and travelling. In the meantime, I'll be missing much less of This Week in History and Load Bearing Bosses, so if you want, you can find me there.

Bonus with the moving, though: on our return, expect a much nicer "set." New room, new furniture, all that good stuff. I don't expect y'all to be that excited, but I sure am!

I probably should've made mention of this in the last newspost, but our appearances are going to become somewhat irregular over the next couple months. Between other events I need to attend and moving into a house (oh man, you guys, I'm about to be a homeowner), things are going to be spotty until after June 15th. But from June 22nd on, everything should be back to normal.

Up front, I can tell you there will be no Throne of Games on the following dates:

• May 4
• June 1
• June 8
• June 15

I cannot say with certainty what the rest of May will look like, but I do hope I'll be able to do a show on any weekend not mentioned above.

The Future of Throne of Games

So, like I said last week, there's no show this week. However, there is some pretty big news, and changes are a-comin'.

Starting next week, Throne of Games is joining my other broadcast media home, Starmen.Net's Radio PSI. What does this mean for us?

• We'll be starting an hour earlier (6pm CT)
• We'll run for a set three hours
• We'll be on the Radio PSI TwitchTV channel

Additionally, we won't be using Twitch's built-in chat pane — that thing kinda sucks. Instead, we'll be in the channel #radiopsi on irc.thinstack.net. If you don't have an IRC client, you can use Thinstack's browser-based client here.
